EXPANSION PROJECT UPDATE

October 2024

With your help, we did it!

With support from over 600 donors, we raised nearly $8 million towards the $12.5 million cost of both phases of the Expansion Project. We could not be more grateful to each and every donor, but especially to the anonymous benefactor who surprised us with an amazing $1,000,000 gift in 2021, The Daniels Fund for awarding us a $350,000 grant in 2022, and two extraordinarily generous families, one who offered a 50% match up to $1,000,000 and another who doubled their already-significant donation to take advantage of that match. Buttressed by a construction loan for the balance, we now have a world class indoor Pickleball Center with 12 courts, completely rebuilt outdoor tennis (6) and pickleball (8) courts, and 28 additional parking spaces.

Plus, as of October 2024, the Pickleball Center now has heat! A few punch list items remain but the netting between courts and code-compliant gates have been installed. (Did you know that stirrup-style gate latches are illegal indoors?) The light ballasts were all replaced after several started to flicker. Video cameras are online and the teaching staff is being trained on their use during drills and lessons, after which we will roll out training sessions for the public.

The rebuilt outdoor facilities and beautiful indoor Pickleball Center are achievements we can all be proud of ... and enjoy with friends and family! Players and coaches who participated in this summer's Rare Air tennis camps for juniors and adults, the NTRP Tennis Tournament, the Nike Pickleball Camp led by top pro player Callie Smith, and the UPA Steamboat Open Colorado State Championship were all in awe of our facilities. What a shining jewel in the treasure chest of activities we are so lucky to have in the Steamboat area.

Does that mean we're done fundraising? Of course not.

We now turn our attention to raising funds to renovate the Tennis Center (check out our Courting Love webpage), but we continue to welcome contributions towards the Pickleball Center as well. "Raise more, borrow less" has been our mantra and every new donation reduces the debt service we pay from operational revenue.

Especially at year-end when you may be looking for ways to reduce taxes, capturing stock market gains, making a required IRA distribution, or taking advantage of up to 25% Colorado income tax credit, please think of us! You can contact any of us, or simply donate or pledge online by going to the Donate: Pickleball or the Donate: Tennis webpages. To donate securities, please contact David Lamb at Edward Jones in Steamboat at 970.879.7742 or david.lamb@edwardjones.com.

See you on the courts!

Phase 1: Done!

  • Install a concrete slab for the entire planned pickleball building, sized for 12 courts and the Welcome Center.

  • Convert the existing 8 pickleball courts back to two tennis courts (no demolition required).

  • Rebuild the 3 clay and the Carol Baily concrete courts, expanding the footprint to include 4 new post-tensioned concrete tennis courts and 8 properly-spaced pickleball courts, all with gel-coat.

  • Expand the parking lot

Phase 2: Done!

  • Erect an energy-efficient steel building with 12 indoor pickleball courts over the foundation laid in Phase 1.

  • Fit out the Welcome Center, including front desk, pro shop, locker rooms, office, and shared community and social spaces.

  • Add a multi-purpose mezzanine (like the one in the Tennis Center) for viewing and events.

  • Finish coat the expanded parking lot.
